Day 3: How to achieve your goals?
Let’s review what we did yesterday: at the end we classified all our goals by category. Now we have all our goals written down. So, what’s the next step?
I think it’s so obvious. We need to make an ACTION PLAN.
The major mistake that people make at trying to achieve their goals is:
- write a huge list and left it on a notebook
- didn’t create an actual plan to achieve them
- just dream about achieving but never work for it
- forget the list on a notebook that they will open next year hoping they achieved the majority of there goals
NOOOOOO!!!! HUGE MISTAKE HERE!
I think we all are related to this errors. But this year we’ll make it different. We’re going to work for it. Say goodbye to laziness because this year we’re going to achieve every goal we set on that list yesterday. And laziness is the worst enemy of goals achieving. We need a lot of willpower. Action. Don’t think about it. Don’t procrastinate it anymore. Just make a plan and actually stick to it.
I’m going to show you how to create an action plan for your goals.
ACTION PLAN:
1. Classify by shirt-term, mid-term and long-term:
- Short-term (1-3 months): All the things you want to change immediately like your habits, or specific goals that you want to achieve them in this period of time.
- Mid-term (3-6 months): Specific goals that may requiere more time and work to achieve them and a actual action plan with baby steps.
- Long-term (6-12 months): The goals you’ll be working on all year long with an action plan but will be ready by this time because of the magnitud of effort or work.
2. Create an action plan for the specific goals: Let’s say you want to go to Europe in the summer. Now create an action plan about it. I have a printable you can fill with your action plan or you can write this steps on you goals notebook.
- Write your goal at the top of the paper: My goal is to go to Europe in the summer.
- Ask you why do you want to achieve this goal: this is for motivation when you’re feeling down on the process. I never been there and I want to get to of my rut and explore the world.
- Write the things you consider as impediment while you’re working on it: couldn’t save enough money, forget about it, laziness, fear.
- Set the probable time limit: june – july 2017.
- Create baby steps about how to achieve this goal:
1. Sell the things I don’t use any more to earn more money or save 20% of my week’s money or part- time job to save money.
2. Go to a travel agency.
3. Have a passport.
4. Invite friends to make it inexpensive.
5. Plan the trip.
6. Book the trip.
7. Buy the transport tickets.
8. Buy clothes or bags for the trip.
9. Buy a dictionary and a camera.
10. Pack everything.
11. Print the tickets and hotel reservation.
- Track the progress by month (0-100%)
- When you accomplished it ask you how do you feel after done it and what would you do better?
3. Put reminders on your phone: for specific things you need to do during the day. Those things you think you may forget to do if they’re in a long time. Or a simple reminder to check your action plan.
4. Add the baby steps of the action plan on your agenda, calendar, or planner: this is the most important one. Everything you did to this point won’t make any difference if you don’t add it on your daily activities. Schedule all the baby steps on your planner or anything you use to organize your days. And with your cellphone turn on the reminders of one of them.
And that’s how you’ll go to Europe this year. Nothing changes if nothing changes. Don’t expect to happen, make it happen. You really need to compromise and stick to it.
If something goes wrong, make another action plan, create another baby steps, but don’t quit. It doesn’t matter if you reschedule it. Just make it happen.
